Dream bedroom [Literally]

- WIP - I had a dream about this amazing bedroom I had. It had more than one room to it. This is just one of them (the one I can remember most). Anyways. I wanted to show my mom what it looked like so I gave painting it a shot. It turned out pretty good. Though I'm not sure what needs to be on the left side of the painting. I tried cropping it but it lost the feeling of how expansive it was. So I gotta think about somethin to put there. Also, I'm not sure whether this is place is a tropical climate or a temperate climate...buuut =] either way it's got coconuts (though I doubt I'll be painting them in there) XD!

ZOEY! An OC of my sister's!

Originally it was just me goofin off, but originally there were none of the cool tones in there so her hair was this orangeish redish brownish color so I was like "OoOh! Haven't drawn a Willow* picture in a while!" But then I had photoshop do the auto level thing and liked the cool colors. Only it turned her hair brown. I tried to get her auburn hair back (because it reminded me too much of Rinoa fanart) but it looked weird. Sooo I was like "eh, well that sorta looks like Starla?" but she's not someone I could imagine being "anime" so then I'm like..."LOL OMG!! ZOEY!" There's an inside joke/train of thought there. I'm...probably not gonna explain it XD

Next! Was cruising around the Art Freebies board on Gaia and found Kyemiria, who wanted her OC drawn, so I used her as practice. =O At one point the character was human but became a demon. So I drew her, in the literal sense, half human, half demon. I might scrap later (have I said that about all my recent deviations? Feels like I have o.o;) since it's not very refined.

Next! LOL Invader Zim fan art. In my attempt to learn Jhonen Vasques' art style I was overcome by the urge to draw Zim in my own art style. Fun and frightening stuff XD

Next (which is for some reason at the bottom?) Avi Art for Armageddon Majesty! Once again, lurking in the freebie forum and saw the most elegant looking avi ever. Naturally I had to draw it. She's not so elegant looking in my drawing but, eh, what can ya do? Still a WIP.

Next! Just another one of those random, non specific purpose speed paintings. And another one I might scrap later. I was originally going to draw an OC of mine but the very first layout of the face looked manly. At first I tried to fix it but eventually said screw it and went with what I had.

Eventually he turned into a Buffy verse vampire. =D Face bumpies are fun to draw! The teeth were evil though. Pretty much I tried to put as much detail into it as I could without fussing over it completely and keep it a speed painting.

After a while I began playing with textures (and scars) =D just to make him look more menacing.

Overall I had fun and painting a face that wasn't pretty and girly was pretty refreshing.

Photoshop CS3 + Intuos 3 + 3 hours.

Oh and I should probably mention Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer in here as a lame, half-assed disclaimer. Half-assed, mostly because aside from the vampire design (face bumpies, yellow eyes etc) there really isn't much here he owns. But I adore his work so I'll mention him anyway ^o^!

Cookie Candle Still Life Study WIP

Still Life study WIP of a candle sitting in my window sill. Brilliant me left the window open and Mother Nature decided to piss on me. Wind and rain man. Two horrible combinations. I love one and I love the other but NOT both at the same time. See, I'm sitting on my bed with my lap top right next to said window so my bed and blankets were getting wet during this whole process. Eventually, after like the tenth time of relighting my candle, I said "@#$% it, I'll try again tomorrow night." And decided to submit what I've got.

D= My still life attempts always DIE! =( Ah, well *shrug* I had fun while it lasted, despite everything =D

Canyon Speedpaint Practice Thing

Practicing with technique and atmosphere and colors. I kinda wanna dedicate this one to my pappy. It's got sort of an alien, desert feel and he likes sci-fi and the desert sooo yeah. I originally had dead shrubbery in the canyon but then became unsure of the scale/distance of everything and painted over em. I might add things later and rotate the canvas a bit to give it more impact. Till then, this is what I got =3!

Two Swans in a Park Speed Painting Practice Thing

Just something I wanted to do before going to sleep. I want to attempt more paintings like this, though with more details. Haha and, yeah, I know scale for a lot of things in this picture are wrong. This was a just-for-funsies thing.

o.o I love swans. They're so beautiful. I get to see them in the winter sometimes when they come up and gather in the farm fields on an island near by (Fir Island). Sadly the fields are all muddy so they don't (usually) inspire me to paint and so I've always wanted to see em in a park like I just painted. Ah, well, one day. =D I hope I'll be able to paint more of em soon! They're just so gorgeous.

So, I went shopping for my dad's wedding (got some new shoes, a tie, a scarf/shawl thing, and a boa. Shoes and Boa are black and the tie and scarf are blue, so I thought "Oh man, these would make a great still life practice! And I've got some silver satin material and a blue sheet that would make a great backgrounds!" So, since my computer is sitting on my bed, I decided I'd set the still life up right next to me.

-.-; Brilliant move there, bud. After just a few hours I started to get sleeeepy but I don't have a decent camera to take a picture of it with so that, if I really wanted to continue (which I doooo) I could just use photo reference. I was going to keep going too, even though I was tired, but decided to lament about my predicament aaaand now I can't find my tablet pen. =/ And then one of my shoes fell outta place, taking some fabric with it, ruining the reference.

The whole thing was a serious fail on my part. Though, the painting was starting to look nice =( and I'm sure I would have been proud of it. But hey, after three hours of meaningless work I can at least get some sleep now. -.-;

Ugh. I'll try again tomorrow probably.

I'm making another attempt at the Nyx painting I started doing a while ago--only I'm not sure she'll still be in a bar, I might just keep it a simple portrait. Her face is looking better, IMO, but still...something's bugging me. I'll figure it out though =D

My OC for a Trigun fanfic. Its the closest I've gotten to drawing anime in a loooong while, so I thought I'd share. There'll be a more realistic painting of her later (if I finish).

Lylak there is not having a good day, is she? I really dun have much to say about this one...just a sort of speed painting and experiment on skin textures (and blood) I'm not sure I'll finish.

XD I need to work on tanned skin tones more. I might start over once I get her facial anatomy right.

As for Aetheria, I've got a few cool ideas for her background and the way she interacts with it. I'm hoping to develop the background a bit more to look like some sort of celestial body. That'll be fun =3!

In other news, I've been seeing a flash of light out of the corner of my eye, so I've been trying not to work my eyes too much until I can get it checked out. Haha at first I decided not to watch TV or go on the computer but ;-; when I'm at home there's nooothing else to do.

Vendetta (redo/tutorial), Aetheria, Shadow Update, Random Speed Painting

Kay, so, its been a while but I have been doing things! Before I go on to talk about the pictures, I'll tell ya...=/ lately when I try painting something, I don't get very far because it feels like my brain and hand aren't communicating very well with one another. That's why half of em are redos of things I've already done or stopped working on.

Anyway, Vendetta. The brunette at the top. I told someone I was going to make a simple skin tutorial and since my brain/hand issue got in the way of drawing line art to use for that tutorial, I decided to use an old piece. Her face sorta bugs me =/. And, I've noticed that three out of the four appear to be naked--I just haven't gotten around to painting clothes on them yet. Excluding:

Aetheria. Yep. Another blue girl with weird colored hair. This was the first to be imagined though. Up until recently I've never attempted to paint her, and only tonight/this morning was I able to get somewhere. She's an assassin/slave who has the ability to turn into wind and manipulate it. That's why she's naked...her clothes don't go with her when she uses her abilities. Haha. No reference used even though I should have.

Shadow. I love the skin tones muuuuch more than the last time I updated. Buuut...I've got a lot to work on with her. Facial anatomy is slightly off and I may angle her head differently. Though I might not. I'm not sure at the moment.

Last but not least: the speed painting. Haha I was watching an archived livestream and was inspired to attempt to paint an actual background. And from there I decided to play with lighting too. the close up is at 100% I think.

All but Vendetta are also skin tone practices. I've been trying to make them look and feel more realistic. Honestly, I don't think I'm doin too bad =D

This is Shadow/Hannah. Started as a pencil sketch on the date labeled in the corner, I then scanned it and tried coloring it.

I never finished it. The more recent edit is on the left, and the old/original/crappy version on the right.

So now, as a part of my "Finish the WIPs" project that I'd momentarily put off for some commission work, I've chosen her to be the next WIP I work on.

Pretty much I'm painting over the original, using the original as a guide line for what it'll look like in the end. I need to work on color and value. It'll be tricky--she's UBER pale and I need to portray that without making her skin too gray, which, at the moment, I think it is. I'll redo her hair too, since it looks pretty bad right now.

I love posting in the WIP forum on Gaia. Random strangers getta point out everything that's wrong with what I've got so far. Sometimes they even compliment me ^o^! Its a lovely learning experience to be honest.

Aaaany who. I hope to be done with this soon. Mostly because I feel bad for not having this done sooner buuut also because during the day I do social things but at night I take that time to write or paint. I don't usually get both done (unless its a speed painting or if I decide the urge to switch tasks is just too strong to ignore). I've been in a plotting mood. And I miss my daily exercises! I needs moar of them!

In other news a friend got me Borderlands for mah birthday! Took me completely by surprise! So far I love the game XD I just wish my awesome computer was a bit more super. Poor ole girl aint what she once was in handling computer games.

Tweaked the values a little bit, changed the left wing and added the brown tips to her wings. Time for her hair and the secondary light source. ^^ This'll be fun!

LoL So, back when I was working on my Snow White coloring book thingy I watched nothing but Disney movies to help with inspiration. Now...I think I've developed a sort of...Pavlov's dogs syndrome. XD Every time I paint I want some sort of animated feature film on my TV, and likewise when I'm watching a Disney movie I find myself wanting to paint.

Now...this seems to be a great motivation to paint...but...I'm not sure if I like so much outside influence on me. Inspiration is wonderful but...a little voice saying "yoooou want to paaaint." whenever I watch a Disney movie is a bit much. Inspiration: wonderful. Jedi mind trick: not so much. I should decide if I should start looking for a way to fix my little issue or just take it as it is and be thankful I have a switch I can flip on whenever I need to paint.

Anywho.... =D I'm weird.

I think I'm about done with her body so I've begun playing with her wings. I've attempted wings only once for (as far as I can remember) and they were sort of sketchy looking and in a different pose. So this will be interesting =3. Once I've figured the wings out I'll start worrying about values. The left wing will have to be much darker than it is now so her arm doesn't look so weird. Haha actually her arm looks like its not even there. I've still gotta work on her hair. XD I don't know why but I'm putting that off for some reason.

Fixed some anatomy/proportion issues, my shading is more refined aaand I'm playing with the values. I'll have to redo the lighting on her face since I changed the shape of her face a little bit--I've also gotta add that same lighting to the rest of her.

LoL Apparently sometime during some of the adjustments I changed the way her face was facing (originally it was more of a nose-in-the-air thing) but didn't get around to fixing the rest of her head so its really...tall XD. I'll be getting to that soon too.

A commission I'm doing for a lady on Gaia of her OC, Aerin Skyfeather (goodness, I love the way that's spelled). She'll eventually have wings, but I'm gonna work on her human anatomy first. The angle has been giving me problems so its not very...good yet, even for a WIP. The colors will probably change when I'm done--I did an auto levels thing and liked the way they look way more.

Aaand completely unrelated to my art, I had such a blast today hanging out with my aunt! We went to a camp I used to go to when I was younger for a few hours for an anniversary party type thing. I miss that place so much! It'd be super awesome if I could get a summer job there this summer. *Falls over, daydreaming* <.<; The only thing is, I don't have a lot of experience working with kids =/. Balls. Haha and apparently I have a potty mouth? Go figure?

OOoH! Also! Anime convention next month. A couple FMA voice actors will be there, as will some of the VAs for Ouran High School Host Club. I'd love to see that too! ;-;! Plus my sister mentioned something about a Trigun movie. I about pewped myself over that one. Haha.

=O A lot has changed, huh? XD Did an auto-levels thing and LOVED what happened. Played with a layer over her face to give her skin more realistic tones (added pink and blue to it), blurred the back ground and gun/hand to put emphasis on her. I had problems with her pants (still unsatisfied with her crotch XD) so I gave myself redlines (o_O which actually worked?!) and re-did them. Added body armor, lighting from the fire AND a secondary lighting coming from the right (her left). Her boobies are smaller now too. And it wouldn't surprise me to find out her eyes lowered a bit more too LoL.

Sooo yeah. I think that's it. =3 It should be close to finished now, I may be able to call it complete tomorrow. Depends on how detail oriented I feel tomorrow.

The Witch (Update 3) Fun with Chessa, Nyx, and Avi Art

1. The Witch. Updated. Fixed proportions, added details and played with lighting.

2. Chessa. Finished. XD Does her outfit look familiar? =D Lots of shits n giggles were had during that painting. She may be one of a sort of "series" I'm doing, where I dress her up in outfits influenced by awesomeness. If you can't catch this round of awesomeness I was going for, it was inspired by the Ghostbusters. =D Because they're awesome.

3. Nyx. WIP. Having issues with the background and lighting as well as some details on her (hair and clothes). I'm working on adding more details to faces aaaand a secondary light source, which I haven't really tried before.

4. Speed painting avi art for o0 yeah on Gaia Online. To those familiar with Gaia: the girl I did that for isn't even expecting any avi art from me. I've never spoken to her in my life and I'm not expecting a single coin for this. Haha. Think she'll be happy?

Why'd I do it? Well...because I liked how simple her avi was (I HATE doing avi art for cluttered Avi's), it was elegant looking (which I liked), and I wanted to practice a skin tone that wasn't pale (did okay, but I'll need more practice).

I love the purple, the feathers, the eyes and the values. Not too fond of anything else though. Oh well =3 it was a for-funsies thing, not a I'm-gonna-bust-my-metaphorical-balls-tryin-to-get-it-perfect thing.

Even though it took me about four hours, its still considered a speed painting to me...because most of my other paintings take much, much longer.

Witch Update 2

Played with the lighting/shadowing more, fixed her face up a little and made her shirt look a bit more realistic--last version looked like the Witch was getting fashion tips from the Flintstones, which is ok, if its what you're goin for...but that wasn't what I was going for o_O so...yeah XD! I'm definitely getting closer to being done =3

On the left we have the....o.O "Left 4 Dead" Witch. Reference here. XD Not quite sure what made me want to paint her, I just knew I wanted to paint her just after she notices you but before she starts to get angry. "OooOoh" for glow-y eyes.

And to contrast the witch in pretty much every way, we have who I'm naming Magenta (wonder why...?). This was a bit of an experiment with colors. What love about this picture: her hair and how big and flow-y it is, and her fin. What I don't like about this picture: =/ Its under water, so I can't paint eyes or lips with the shine I usually do.

Both painted with Photoshop CS3 and my new Intuos3, which I love very, very much.

M'kay, so we have Chessa (full bod), Chessa (portrait), Alice, and Cherry.

Chessa (full bod):

I'm almost done with this...I just need to work on the sleeves (possibly give her hands), refine her shoesies and work on a background. Obviously a lot has changed since my last Chessa update. Got into the Halloween spirit and came up with this XD. I like it a lot better than what I had =3! Oh and look! The choker came back without her looking like a complete dominatrix! Woot!

Just playing with the background/foreground. I kind of like it but I'm not sure it'll be worked into the full bod version. Maybe the sparkles will =3.

I've been hearing that Chessa's expression is too "blah-ish" and I agree...except for that's sort of the way she is. She's not a very smile-oriented person (at least not during the time this painting takes place in) and I didn't want this to be a sad picture, so without her ability to smile and it not being a depressing/angry picture...all ya can have is "blah-ish". XD

Alice:

Just an update. Fixed her face a bit more. Sadly, with Alice between Chessa and Cherry she looks...flat in complexion. However, as it is a darker image, I think it'll be fine. I made the fire a little more realistic looking...not by much obviously. Haha and now I feel like its not "hot" enough. Sooo I'll work on that next.

Happy Birthday Arlene!! Arlene's character Cherry! Well sorta, its not exactly how I imagine her but its FAR better than the old version I had. More or less completed it took me....a few years to actually sit down and get this picture done. Turns out I only had to completely re-do everything about it. New colors, new body, (slightly) new facial structure. After that it only took me a couple hours to finish.

Sooo to explain the girlified version of her...Booger thought that she looked like a man and while I argued, she's not supposed to look girly (I don't think I'd be worried about lip gloss in a zombie apocalypse) I decided to show her that under the scars and the disfigurement she actually did look like a girl. There we have it.

Overall the painting's not looking so good (since I did just start an hour or so ago) but I do like the colors--the brown, orange and yellows on one side and greens on the other.

This character's name was inspired by a girl I know named Maggie. She was Alice Cooper for Halloween, so I call her Little Alice. This character's name is Alice Cooper and her nick name is Maggie. <3s>

=O So its been a while since I've updated (thanks to Perfect World) <.<;; sooo tonight when the servers went down I decided to be productive, watch The Ghost and the Darkness followed by Harry Potter (Chamber of Secrets) and play in Corel Painter before the trial runs out ;-;!

Anyway, I shaped and shaded her face a little more added more eyeliner (MOAR! MOAR!! Mwahahaha! >=D!) and felt her "outfit" was a lil to plain so added the arm warmers. I had a choker on there too but thought she looked too much like a dominatrix o.O! sooo I took it off XD But now it looks...blah-ish. >.O Hopefully I can find something to add. Maybe a scarf? Lawls.

Meh, over all still needs work, but we're getting there.

Chessa Update

=O Since the first Chessa picture posted I've fixed a few things. The eyes (though I don't feel "done" with them yet and will probably fix them again later) were made more "realistic" since I was told they were terrifying o.O though without pupils and "eyeshine" they tend to look like they belong on a zombie. Anyway...I also added more shadow to the side of her face to accent depth, and I defined the "edge" of her face (so that it didn't look like her cheek was swollen) and lastly I moved her lips over to the right juuust a little bit.

D= I just noticed my spell check isn't workin! Ahhh! Nuuuu! Dang it...

Eh well, whatever. Check the detail pic--I didn't like that I lost a few details when I shrunk the full thing down so I posted a detail shot, like with Vendetta. Aaand because it looked weird cropped, I rotated the detail pic so her face wasn't angled the way it is in the original.

Tattoo Concept Design

A tattoo design for Farie Mary on Gaia. The whole piece had the words "Dreams Do" on the top and "Come True" on the bottom. =3 I had tons of fun working on the colors, though it was hard finding a good brush to use.

Side note: Landing gear is so cute--swans have the cutest landing gear (even though Mr. Pengy isn't a swan) I still giggle at cute lil black feetsies! o.o;! Yeah....

Chessa WIP

=O So I wanted to update Chessa again. The last time I drew her I thought she looked soooo goood!...now...I look at that picture and go "O_O;; Omg...*cringe*"

Obviously, I'm not done so her face still looks a lil weird to me? o.O; But hopefully by the time I'm done it'll look much, much better =D

=O Done in Corel Painter XI! I gotta say...for a little while it wasn't easy getting used to the brushes in Painter, but once I got the hang of them, I think I prefer them even more than photoshop. =O And the mixer feature is freaking awesome! Again, not easy to get used to but amazing all the same. I also like the use of the color wheel. XD I need more RAM though, since some of the bigger brushes (and the eraser for some reason) lag a bit. But that's okay, I'm quite happy with Painter as a whole.

Snow White Update

Like it says--an update. Click for larger view. The original size of the canvas is 4000 pixels high by 2024 wide, so I had to shrink it down to post this.

Uhm...I've asked my parentals and they agree that her foot looks...detatched? Like it looks like her leg either bends beneath her or goes straight down, but her shoe is too far to the right. I'll probably just get rid of that.

Also, I would like to note the trouble her hand was giving me. The line art had to be blown up and by that time it'd lost ALL definition so I'm pretty much trying to guess how its supposed to look. Hands are eeevil to draw...but I must admit I feel really acomplished when I've drawn a hand that looks good. =3

Inspirational Fun

Sooo pretty much everyone who knows me, knows a lot of my inspiration to do digital art comes from a young artist named Katie De Sousa (or Yumedust as I occassionally call her o.O;). The other day when I was watching one of her livestreams she told everyone about two other artists that had done something...irresistable. Ryan Wood, Sam Neilson and later Miss Katie took coloring pages found off the internet and painted them using pieces of classical art as reference. The end result was waaaay cool! <.<>

Here's what I'm doing--though it is still a WIP.

It might just be me and my lack of experience with viewing classical art but to me it didn't seem like too many of those artists used all three primary colors in their pieces! Trying to find an image with red, yellow, and blue was NOT easy.

So, I did pretty much everything I wanted to that I mentioned in the last Vendetta Update. Fixed the shading on her cheek, tweaked the proportions, smoothed out her forehead, gave her nose and eyes more depth. All very minor stuff. I'll probably be done later tonight. Yay!

Vendetta Update 4

Alright so the update is a little late (was going for an "update every day" thing but I missed it by a couple of hours) but, well, here it is!

I've fixed the shading (smoothed it out, darkened some areas), played with the hair to give it more "oomph", added a lacy sort of pattern to it.

And the eyes!

Those bitches were hard.

Since I've only done brown, green or blue in the past (or kitty yellow LoL) I decided to go for something...different. Hazel.

The main color (I start with a base color when I start blocking things in then add pupils and shadows then the details) was a low saturated ever-so-slightly-green yellow color. That...looked really weird. Her eyes "popped" out like those dogs with the single creepy blue eye (and it was too green and not hazel enough) and I didn't like that, so I went to wikipedia and looked up eyes to help give me an idea.

In the end I got a color almost exactly like mine O_O;; dark green on the outside, brown on the inside and a weird pale brown between the green and the brown. =O Honey colored. That's what it is. XD Anywho, I might be proud of those eyes when I'm done. Might.

Tomorrow I'll probably play with a few minor proportions and shading--the mouth is sliiiightly slanted down too far and the left eye, nostrils and possibly her cheek need to be shaded darker. And I have to smooth out the forehead.

Soooo I decided to update? An hour after my last one? Yeahhh. Well, I wanted to. I've added eyelashes and played with her hair a bit more.

=/ The nose doesn't bother me anymore but the hair does LoL mostly the shading on the left side. Might just be me though.

Just a quick lil update. I'm trying to update every day that I work on the drawing. I didn't get to work on it much today since its Marilyn's 21st birthday (YAY!!) and I was writing but I did work on the proportions (some more, like in the last one) and lightened it up a little. =/ And yes, the nose still bugs me, but its getting better =3.

First entry! Yay! Hello! *Waves*

Anyway, this is something I drew line art for a few months ago and just now got around to coloring. I'm sort of becoming proud of it (though later, when I've improved, I'll look back and won't be anymore LoL) even though the nose/mouth area is bothering me. What's awesome is, I'm not even very proud of the piece itself--I'm proud of the fact I'm learning to pick my own colors and have them work. *Used to be a slave of the Eyedropper tool*

As for the character herself, her name's Vendetta (though she usually goes by just Venna or Detta, since she's not all that vengeful).

I've got no honest idea when I'll be done with this piece. Hopefully I can finish it before I get sick of looking at it. I've learned to do eyes last--or at least past the half-way mark; they're my favorite things to color so usually I get done with them then let the painting just sorta...collect digital dust for a while.

Done in Photoshop CS3 and aid of a tablet.
